I am now starting to study for the General Examination. I am hoping that I can either take a class or at least take the examination somewhere much closer to home. Is that something that the Tryon ARC has done or plans on doing in the future?

Hi,
This is a hot topic on the club. Classes and testing were done by the club a while ago. We do want to start doing it again, but we had a much bigger priority these last few years which was to have a ham radio room at the EOC. We have finally done it. This month we will present the room to the community and dedicate it to everyone who helped getting it there.

I am a new Extra and my intentions are to become a VE in the near future so we have enough of us to be able to administer a test. I am not sure how soon you plan to take the test, but keep an eye out on this website for more information on the subject. I will bring it up at the meeting to see how we are on that.

My plan is to pass the General by mid summer then pass Extra by the close of the year. I have a study partner now in an old supervisor of mine who will also be working on his General.

I’ve been a listener on the repeater trying to get a feel for how formal the communications are but, I have not heard it very busy. I’ll be on the road again later on today and will be testing the coverage limits of the repeater while out and about. I am on the road a lot for my work so, I am on a lot of different repeaters.

I plan on joining the Tryon ARC at the meeting on the 15th. If I am out of the area for work, what will be the best way for me to submit my form and membership payment?
