Did you know that there is a Sunday Night Net?

Yes, there is!  K2ALS Steve Kuck is hosting the Net ”Not Necessarily About Anything”.  It begins at 8:00 PM EST on the K2JJI repeater in Johnstown, NY. Frequency is 146.700Mhz with – offset. Echolink Node #510372.

Steve has been running the net for the past few weeks and the topics have ranged from “most memorable HF contact” to “Public Service and EmComm”.  Sometimes it is just a “rag chew” and that is also very good.

Stop by and say hi, add your 2 cents and maybe even laugh a bit as Steve keeps the repeater warm.  It couldn’t be any easier, it is WayTwoEasy!  bye for now…

Long gone are the days when the average citizen had to wait for the government or the press to learn about distant wars. This is an example how in this information age a Dutch ex-military and radio enthusiast make uses of the new ways information is transmitted, tracking attack flights on Libya, and even helping NATO by tweeting messages to the US command responsible for the strikes.

The sheet with the frequencies was almost impossible to read, but the club has them listed here: http://www.nysfedsar.org/technology.php.

Last night (3/12/2011) I noticed the echolink node acting up. I moved it to a simplex frequency while I fix the issues so it will not affect the day to day repeater use.

If the problem is related to the sound card then the echolink node may be down for a few days since the host computer requires a special type of PCI card due to its 1U size. Nothing else is affected, the RACES nets are still being recorded.

UPDATE: 3/15/2011 1800z
The echolink problem has been fixed. It was not related to hardware, but an update had caused the audio to malfunction.

Last meeting (2/16/2011) Ray Di Stefano K2RND presented his coaxial dipole 440 antenna. This design is very clean and easy to build. Great Job Ray!

Click here to download the instructions to build this antenna as published on qst on the July 2009 edition.
