Members of the club voted to disable the 100Hz PL tone on the K2JJI Repeater (-146.70Mhz). This was done so operators that are either not yet familiar with their radios or have radios that do not produce a 100 Hz tone could still check in to the NET. Thanks Andrew (K1YMI) for taking care of this.

The ARRL Public Relations Committee — in conjunction with the ARRL’s Atlantic Division — will host a “webinar” On Thursday, April 22 at 9 PM EDT, join ARRL Media and Public Relations Manager Allen Pitts, W1AGP, along with ARRL Field Day Manager and members of the League’s Public Relations Committee as they tell you how to use ARRL Field Day to bring attention to Amateur Radio in your area. Learn how to set up a Field Day publicity calendar, invite elected officials and dignitaries, get proclamations issued, post your Field Day event on local media outlets and community bulletin boards, get audio and video PSAs on local radio and TV stations, how to use newer social networks like Facebook and Twitter and more to draw people to your Field Day event.

SKYWARN Reminder 4/22/2010 (7PM to 9PM)

I will like to remind everyone that the spring SKYWARN session has been scheduled for April the 22nd from 7pm to 9pm at the EOC room, located at the back of the Fulton Co Sheriff Dept. This SKYWARN session will be presided by a short 30 minutes Tryon ARC meeting.

The East Greenbush Amateur Radio Association (W2EGB) will be hosting their 7th annual hamfest on Saturday, May 8 2010 from 8 am to 1 pm for the general public; 6 am vendors setup. This is rain or shine event. The location for this event is:

General Admission is $6, Pavilion $6 per table (Tables provided) and Tailgating $6 per 8 foot space.

I (KC2UEZ) am proud to inform the members of Tryon ARC that we are now also available via the EchoLink node # 510372.

This will allow linking remote repeaters via internet, will allow ham radio operators across the world to talk in our repeater and also local ham radio operators to connect to remote repeaters.

Ever since I changed my license plate to my call sign I noticed that all the traffic lights I come across are always green, snows melts in front of my tires, cute girls wave at me and I am not sure but I think I even get better gas mileage. (Actual results may vary)

I encourage the members of the club to do the same; it is a nice way to “Promote the Hobby”. In NY it is an easy process and it takes about 2 weeks. You can do it over the phone by calling (1-518-402-4838) or on the internet by going to this address: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/emerg.htm you will need a copy of the license issued by the FCC. Of course, nothing is free and nowhere else is this more evident than here in New York. There is an initial cost for the plates of $35 and an annual plate renewal fee of $6.50 for the Ham Radio Operator plates.
